Conscious Work-Life Balance
Top

We believe that having a conscious work-life balance is essential in unleashing the fullest potential of our people.

For one, we have a generous annual leave policy to encourage our employees to be well-rested and spend quality time with their loved ones.

We also offer flexible working arrangements where our employees have a good degree of freedom (subjected to business needs) to choose where and when they would be working.

Notwithstanding highly critical and urgent matters, we can also expect our employees to be undisturbed by work matters outside of working hours.

Leading-Edge Technologies
Top

We are constantly finding new ways to do things better and would constantly monitor emerging technology that we can introduce into our technology stack and product. We are proud to say that our teams are empowered to propose and implement the most advanced technologies. Emerging technologies are not selected just because they are new but because they bring additional value and best fit our business requirements.

Here are some examples of how we have leveraged leading-edge technologies to build world-class products:
  • Event-driven architecture is used to build crypto exchanges that are up 24/7 and also support seamless upgrades, failover, and event replay for offline troubleshooting.
  • We use Kafka for post-trade data distribution, AMPS for the view server, and Artio as the low latency FIX gateway.
  • Monitoring and analytics tools such as Prometheus and Grafana
  • SwiftUI is explored to provide a faster way of creating in-app functionality.
  • Android Jetpack Compose is explored for simplification and acceleration of UI development on Android
  • Dashboards created using open-sourced tools

End-to-End Ownership
Top

We strongly believe that great ideas can come from anyone no matter how long they have been at our company or where they are in their careers. Our employees can roll up their sleeves, create projects and programmes from scratch and own them as the organization continues to grow.

We recognise that to create world-class products, our employees must have the autonomy to make an impact, influence change as well as drive innovation in their work. On the technology front, having end-to-end ownership allows for features to be implemented correctly and in line with business needs. This is beneficial for personal development as well since our employees would be able to capture more business knowledge and can thus also provide feedback and suggestions to the business rather than merely being siloed in technology work.

For example, the traders in our trading team would generate new ideas daily and some would require major changes in the systems. Since our engineers have a good understanding of the business, they could provide alternative solutions which would not only fit the system design but also address the business requirement in a much more efficient way. In other words, having end-to-end ownership would allow for cross-functional collaboration in the most effective way and quicker delivery to the market.

Product Love
Top

We are a highly mission-oriented organisation and strongly believe that our products play an important role in helping to accelerate the world's cryptocurrency adoption.

We pride ourselves as a product-led organisation obsessed with creating the best user experience for our customers. This is why we always seek to listen to our customers through a variety of platforms and iterate product decisions based on the feedback we have received. For example, we will constantly read and implement community feedback we receive through channels such as Discord, Reddit, Github and Telegram.

Our employees are also the first users of our products and they serve as a very important source of feedback on how we can make our products better. We have an internal channel for people to communicate with function owners, which helps the team address problems quickly. For example, we once had an engineer raise the suggestion of making improvements to the visibility of price trends for historical NFT purchases. The end-to-end process from the improvement being raised to implementation happened within less than one week.

Great Code Quality
Top

We place a premium on having great code quality since it is a core component for building world-class products. Having great code quality enables the code to be more readable and maintainable, making it easier to spot problems and enhance existing features.

Striking a balance between readability and performance is tricky since our systems are especially complex and latency-sensitive. Thus, we would adopt the best practice of thinking from both a top-down approach (from a functionality and usability perspective) and a bottom-up perspective (from performance and scalability) during the development and design of applications. In case of any contradiction, we will improve the documentation to allow for the design to be easily understandable by others.

Our leaders are willing to invest additional time to ensure good code quality. All code changes have to be code reviewed, either by a peer or team manager. This ensures that changes are well tested, test cases are valid, and the knowledge and requirements are well addressed. Every component should have sufficient automated test coverage (including unit tests, behaviour tests, and integration tests) such that even the edge cases can be covered and addressed.

Innovation At Every Level

We give our employees room to fail and see failure as a natural step in continuously iterating and learning from our mistakes. Our employees are always encouraged and given the opportunity to provide feedback, share their ideas and take actionable steps towards fulfilling the ideas that they have.

For example, our employees can self-organise hackathons. For the latest hackathon, our senior leadership team formed the judging panel and functional leads acted as mentors to the hackathon groups. In celebration of innovative spirit, everyone will have some form of award regardless of placement. All winning ideas will also be considered for Crypto.com 's product roadmap.

Learning Oriented

There is a spirit and culture of continuous learning and humility deeply embedded within the team.

Some offerings that exhibit this spirit and culture would include cross-team technical sharing, weekly tech updates and tech community discussion messenger groups. These channels are more for high-level technical sharing, informative updates and practice alignments. On top of those daily interactions, introductory workshops are organized regularly. Engineers get up-to-date with common tools we are using. Occasionally, customized vendor workshops are arranged to gain specific and in-depth technical knowledge about specific products too.

On a more personal level, we have a buddy and mentorship system. The majority of engineers are grouped in a small team (around 5) and work with a Lead Engineer’s leadership. Project code review and technical discussion within this small group is the core source of knowledge and skill exchange.

Our engineers also have visibility into all projects and can raise their hand to work on any project regardless of which team they belong to. Subjected to business needs, our engineers also have the chance to rotate to another team to broaden their experience and exposure. In fact, we have an engineer who has recently moved from the New Venture Engineering team to the Blockchain team.

Team Oriented

Our leaders are supportive of working toward collective goals. We celebrate wins and recognize big milestones.

For example, we have an internal Slack channel called #yourock specifically for acknowledging and appreciating the good work that colleagues put in and celebrating every key milestone.

There are no barriers to collaboration, and everyone's voice is heard. We put conscious effort into fostering collaboration and diversity of thought, and humility is deeply embedded in everything that we do.
