Position Title: IT analyst Applications (Cloud Database Engineer)

Location: Bangalore, India

Job Summary

Be a part of the Caterpillar IT Enterprise Distributed Database Services team that is responsible for delivering world class database services to customers throughout the enterprise. This position will work directly with a core team of DBAs providing technical research and leadership, project planning and implementation of a variety of technical projects, and senior level Cloud DBA support to internal customers. The ideal candidate capable to be a self-starter able of thinking with an enterprise perspective while still being flexible enough to keep the business running.

Responsibilities

• Provide 3rd and 4th level cloud database support for complex issues (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.).
• Participate in and manage database related projects, database security patching audits, and compliance reviews and testing.
• Develop new and update existing database technology related documentation as needed.
• Provide technical leadership for all aspects of database management such as database lifecycle management, monitoring, support, disaster recovery, compliance, and standards.
• Research, benchmark, and suggest improvements to database support processes, customer experience (CX) improvements, and compliance requirements.
• Research new cloud database versions (Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL), features, tools, and technologies with an Enterprise perspective to meet customer needs while maintaining a secure database environment.
• Coach and communicate information to Caterpillar’s application support teams and peers across the enterprise on cloud technology changes, new features, key projects, and customer experience improvements.
• Participate in customer driven and Division/department projects providing Database Management consultancy services.
  
  

Required Skillsets

• Should have 8+ years of relevant experience in relevant technologies.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience on managing Cloud Native Databases like AWS Aurora, AWS RDS databases (MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL), Azure SQL Database, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Azure Database for MySQL.
• Should have minimum 1 year of field support experience on PaaS databases in Azure and or AWS.
• Should be at least part of 5 projects with minimum of 3 months duration by actively participating in on-premises to cloud migration projects (Like SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.).
• Should have minimum 1 year of Experience in doing cross platform migrations from Oracle or MySQL or MSSQL to Community editions of MySQL / PostgreSQL.
• Expert level of knowledge using any Script Query Language like Oracle PL/SQL, MSSQL T-SQL, MySQL Stored program languages, etc.
• SQL Cloud Database Administration skills.
• Database Lifecycle Management (DBLM).
• Backup management for IaaS and PaaS DBs in Azure and AWS clouds is essential.
• Experience on support application teams on Database performance tuning is essential.
• Experience in Infrastructure-as-code to deploy Stack using AWS CloudFormation is a plus.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines to deliver Cloud resources, using tools like Azure DevOps (cloud formation), Terraform or similar is essential.
• YAML & JSON coding skills is essential.
• Scripting knowledge (Shell, sed, awk, Perl, etc.) is essential.
• Database performance tuning is essential.
• Knowledge of Vector Databases is a huge plus.
• Existing Caterpillar experience is a HUGE plus.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, presentation, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability and interest on researching, learning, applying new technologies with an enterprise perspective.
• Attitude of self-directing his work, independently researching tools/libraries/technologies, or solving a problem with minimal oversight and instructions.
• Experience with:
• Organizing his / her own activities portfolio, looking for ways of optimizing its delivery rate
• Technical Project Management, technical leadership, and strong communication skills to work with DBAs and application teams in a variety of situations.
• Providing on the job training and developing learning materials for DBAs
• Technical problem-solving skills
• Cloud computing platforms such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services
• IT Service Management (ITSM) process & Root cause analysis (RCA) processes
• ServiceNow
• Database security threats and security best practices
  
  

Work Timings – 1:00PM to 10:00PM IST (Approx.)
