Engineers play an active role in planning our roadmaps and we put a strong focus on keeping our engineering teams happy and productive. We regularly prioritze work to continuously improve our developer experience through improved tooling, automation, testing, and refactoring.

More than just a food delivery service, we are dedicated to making a positive impact through technology. In response to customer’s needs and adapting to shifting market conditions (eg.COVID-19 restrictions in 2020) our engineering team innovated and developed new solutions to adapt to new consumer habits, such as:

PandaGo; A convenient courier service of small items beyond food & drinks, catering to both businesses and consumers
PandaCare; To enhance support agents' efficiency and customer satisfaction, an in-house customer support system was built to seamlessly integrate all back-office services.
PandaPro; A monthly all-rounded subscriptions program offering a comprehensive range of benefits such as exclusive discounts on pick-up, food delivery, groceries and dine-in. It offers free delivery on orders from selected restaurants!

Our mission is to also help expose local communities and businesses to our user base from partners (riders/merchants), and consumers to onboard them as fluidly as possible.

Our backend system has a user-friendly design to facilitate smooth onboarding and usage for partners, like our riders and vendors.
PandaAds; Launched in 2022, this feature is an integrated advertising solution that seamlessly bridge the divide for advertisers in the digital space, enabling brands to connect with foodpanda’s audiences by leveraging on its social media channels and form strategic partnerships across foodpanda’s verticals.

Partnering with IMDA under the TechSkills Accelerator initiative and Ngee Ann Polytechnic, foodpanda’s PowerUp! SG Academy Program provides aspiring tech enthusiasts a jumpstart on their careers, with guidance and mentorship from top-notch and likeminded engineers! This hands-on training program aims to sharpen their skills, impart valuable knowledge and experience, to equip them for future success in the field.

Here, we embrace and celebrate failure! Failure is viewed as an opportunity for quick learning and improvement, rather than a setback. Our Weekly Operation Review meeting is a great example of a blameless retrospective culture, where anyone is permitted to attend and post questions to learn from incidents. Through the RFC (Request for Comments) process, individuals have the chance to present their ideas to relevant stakholders and make their vision a reality.

We also host regular Hackathons where our pandas get to collaborate, exchange ideas, and spark creativity. This resulted in some of our most innovative features that made a difference, such as MightyPanda. This internally used feature was developed during the Hackathon in May 2020/2021, to help safely open the workplace with employee registration and occupancy tracking (in accordance with the 50% occupancy law at the time).

What's more, in order to stay ahead of the changing market conditions, the Dine-In feature was created to boost footfall for our restaurant partners after the COVID restrictions were lifted. This innovation demonstrates our commitment to staying ahead of the curve.
