GENERAL FUNCTION:
Plans, develop, implements, analyzes, maintains and supports the 1rstWAP servers and IT systems. Provides specialized technical assistance in defining server designs and implements solutions and strategies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Under the direction of the Operations Manager, plans, develop, implements, analyzes, maintains and supports the 1rstWAP servers and IT systems.
- Provides specialized technical assistance in defining server designs and implements solutions and strategies; recommends and implements improvements.
- Investigates into latest IT solution technologies and techniques and integrates them with 1rstWAP systems.
- Monitors and manages load configurations of the 1rstWAP servers and makes recommendations for purchase and upgrade; specifies purchase requirements.
- Interacts with outside agencies/companies related to 1rstWAP IT equipment and data processing and helps to make changes to 1rstWAP systems to facilitate access to 1rstWAP.
- Negotiates and places orders for IT equipment in limited scope data.
- Oversees the maintenance and repair of servers and office IT equipment.
- Coordinates IT system planning, installation, monitoring, testing and servicing.
- Installs, upgrades and maintains server software, operating systems as well as off-the-shelf applications; writes small programs and comprehensive shell scripts as required.
- Researches, evaluates, installs and tests software packages, updates and patches to supported applications and various operating systems.
- Installs, upgrades and benchmarks IT equipment.
- Tests and recommends software and hardware for 1rstWAP use and to ensure programs and hardware meet the needs of the network’s users.
- Develops solutions to method of installations to ensure smooth operation of the 1rstWAP systems.
- Ensures the integrity and security of the servers; troubleshoots and isolates server and bottlenecks failures.
- Ensures secure operations of all servers and services through the use of the security and encryption tools such as SSH, SSL, PGP, GnuPG, etc.
- Monitors and analyze systems logs and activity on all 1rstWAP IT equipment.
- Resolves all problems relating to the operation of the 1rstWAP IT systems.
- Performs systems analysis, optimization, load balancing and configuration, uses performance monitoring tools and interprets results.
- Documents and logs all system related changes, procedures, configurations, logs and technical information.
- Takes responsibility for backups of all servers, systems and important IT data; performs recovery as necessary.
- Performs maintenance on staff accounts, incl. adding, removing and modification.
- Maintains the integrity of staff accounts and data on all systems; manages Unix security features to protect confidential information while allowing appropriate access.
- Creates and maintains mailing lists and send mail aliases.
- Provides advice, training and technical support for department personnel and others.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in computer sciences or related fields, with more than 1 year of previous system administration experience.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Familiar with Desktop Operating Systems: Unix/Linux and Windows.
- Familiar with Linux Operating Systems especially RedHat derivatives and Debian derivatives.
- Having knowledge and understanding about Networking and IP Protocols, e.g., TCP/IP, VPN (IPSEC,Wireguard,OpenVPN), NAT/PAT, Routing Protocols, Switching, VLAN, etc.
- Understand and know how to manage and configure network appliances such as Cisco ASA/Firepower, PaloAlto NGFW appliance, Cisco network switch, HPE Procurve network switch, Netgear network switch, Opnsense Firewall appliance.
- Having knowledge and understanding about managing server hardware such as basic IPMI setup, RAID setup, operating system tuning, and other task related with server hardware setup.
- Having knowledge, understading and experience on install, setup and manage Web services (Nginx, NPM, Apache), email services (Postfix, Dovecot, and Amavis), database services (PostgreSQL, MariaDB, Galera Cluster, Maxscale) and DNS software (PowerDNS, Bind, PiHole).
- Having knowledge, understanding and experience on install, setup and manager Virtualization, Containerization and Cloud Platform technologies such as Proxmox, RHEV, Docker, Podman, K3S, Podman, LXC, OpenNebula, OpenStack, and other similar technologies.
- Having knowledge, understanding and experience on install, setup and manager storage platform such as iSCSI SAN, CEPH, Synology NAS, and/or other similar technologies.
- Understand and know how to use and develop simple script or program using Linux scripting (bash) or one of programming language in Linux such as C, Rust, Java or Python.
- Having knowledge, understanding and experience on implementation, setup and manage authentication service using SAMBA-AD, OpenLDAP, Radius and FreeIPA.
- Having knowledge, understanding and experience on IT security, threat hunting, vulnerability detection and scan, breach and attach simulation.
- Understanding and know how to setup, install and use security tools such as OpenVAS, Wazuh/UTMStack and OWASP.
- Having knowledge, understanding and experience on installation, setup and manage high availability services/tools/protocols such as load balancer (HAProxy), Keepalived VRRP, and Opensense CARP.
- Having knowledge, understading and experience on installation, setup and manage bastion host using custom SSH configuration or Teleport or jumphost.
- Having knowledge, understading and experience on SSL implementation on the Web service and OpenVPN server client setup.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of writing proposals and papers and making professional presentations.
