(Jr.) Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

▋ About the Role:

As a Junior SDET at GoFreight, you will leverage AI tools (primarily Claude) to accelerate test development and ensure software quality across our freight forwarding SaaS platform. You will write, execute, and evaluate tests with a critical eye—using AI to boost your velocity while applying your own judgment to validate quality. This role emphasizes rapid learning, ownership of test outcomes, and close collaboration with engineering and product teams.

▋ Core Responsibilities:

1. AI-Augmented Test Development

• Write and maintain automated tests (unit, integration, E2E) using Python, leveraging Claude and other AI tools to accelerate development.
• Critically evaluate AI-generated test code for correctness, coverage completeness, and alignment with real user scenarios.
• Identify blind spots and unrealistic assumptions in AI-generated tests; ensure tests reflect actual business logic and edge cases.

2. CI/CD Integration & Quality Ownership

• Integrate and maintain automated tests within CI/CD pipelines (Git, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD).
• Own test coverage metrics and quality indicators; proactively flag gaps and drive improvements.
• Triage test failures, distinguish flaky tests from genuine defects, and follow through to resolution.

3. Collaboration & Communication

• Partner with developers and product managers to clarify test requirements, acceptance criteria, and edge-case coverage.
• Communicate test results and quality risks clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Actively participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and retrospectives with a quality-first mindset.

4. Rapid Learning & Continuous Improvement

• Quickly ramp up on GoFreight's engineering practices, testing standards, and development workflows.
• Stay current with emerging AI tools, testing frameworks, and best practices; propose adoption of new tools that improve team velocity.
• Challenge existing processes and suggest improvements; don't just follow—think critically about how we can do better.

▋ Qualifications:

• Working proficiency in Python — Can write a complete test script from scratch, debug failures in existing code, and understand how libraries like Selenium or Behave work under the hood — not just copy-paste from AI output.
• Solid understanding of software testing principles: unit, integration, and end-to-end testing concepts.
• Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and development workflows (e.g., Git, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD).
• Experience using AI/LLM-powered tools (e.g., Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) as part of daily workflows.
• Strong critical thinking — ability to evaluate AI outputs, identify gaps, and apply independent judgment.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills; comfortable working across technical and non-technical teams.
• Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and adopt new tools, frameworks, and practices with minimal guidance.
• Ownership mindset and grit — willing to take responsibility, navigate ambiguity, and persist through challenges to deliver results.

▋ Nice to Have:

• Experience with AI Agent orchestration — designing, configuring, or evaluating AI-powered testing agents.
• Experience with prompt engineering or fine-tuning instructions for AI coding/testing agents.
• Hands-on experience with test automation frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Selenium, pytest).
• Familiarity with observability tools (e.g., Datadog, Sentry, OpenTelemetry) for quality signal feedback.
• Understanding of freight forwarding workflows, logistics operations, or enterprise SaaS domain knowledge.
• Background in security or performance testing concepts.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes (K8s) and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP) for deployment and testing contexts.
