Job Description

We are partnering with a well-funded, high-growth global technology firm in the digital investment space that is building a small scale engineering team in Kuala Lumpur.

This is a founding leadership role where you will build, scale, and lead a high-performing engineering team while remaining hands-on in architecture and development.

Key Responsibilities

Build & Lead Engineering Team
Hire, mentor, and scale a high-performing engineering team while fostering a strong engineering culture and best practices.
Design and drive scalable architecture for real-time data platforms and frontend applications, balancing short-term delivery with long-term scalability.
Develop Real-Time Data Systems
Architect and build streaming data pipelines to ingest, process, and distribute high-volume, low-latency data.
Drive Engineering Excellence
Establish best practices across CI/CD, testing, observability, incident management, and code quality.
Collaborate with Business & Product Stakeholders
Work closely with cross-functional teams (product, data, business) to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.

Key Requirements

8 -10 years in software engineering with proven experience leading teams, ideally in a scaling or early-stage environment.
Deep Expertise in Real-Time & Distributed Systems
Strong experience with event-driven architecture, pub/sub systems, and streaming pipelines.
Hands-on Modern Tech Stack ExperienceBackend: Python (FastAPI), Node.js, or similar
Frontend: React, TypeScript, Next.js
Data/Streaming: Kafka / NATS / WebSockets / gRPC
Cloud & DevOps: Azure (preferred), Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines
Data: Time-series data, ETL pipelines, high-throughput systems
Strong System Design & Problem-Solving Skills
Ability to design scalable, resilient systems with a clear understanding of data flow, failure modes, and observability.
Startup / Entrepreneurial Mindset (Important)
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, able to build from scratch, make decisions with limited structure, and take full ownership.
