About The Role

We are seeking an experienced SRE professional to setup the SRE CoE at Haleon. This highly strategic role will be responsible for defining, building, and driving the Observability practice across the enterprise, which includes establishing SRE principles, patterns, and governance frameworks with Datadog as the primary observability platform. This role demands deep technical expertise, executive presence, and the ability to influence without authority across diverse engineering, infrastructure, and product teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • COE Strategy & Governance: Define and own the Observability COE charter, operating model, and roadmap in alignment with enterprise technology strategy. Establish governance frameworks for observability standards, tool adoption, and data quality across all engineering teams.
  • SRE Principles, Patterns & Best Practices: Author and maintain SRE runbooks, playbooks, and golden signals documentation tailored to CPG workloads. Define error budgets, reliability targets, and incident response standards in partnership with product and engineering leads.
  • Datadog Platform Ownership: Own the enterprise Datadog implementation end-to-end: architecture, integrations, cost optimization, and feature enablement. Design and govern Datadog tagging taxonomies, dashboard standards, monitor templating, and alert routing policies. Implement and mature APM, Logs, Infrastructure Monitoring, RUM, Synthetics, and CI Visibility.
  • Observability Engineering & Architecture: Architect a unified observability stack spanning microservices, cloud-native infrastructure, on-prem systems. Define standards for distributed tracing (OpenTelemetry), structured logging, and custom metrics instrumentation.
  • Incident Management & Reliability: Define and operationalize a tiered incident severity model with clear escalation paths, SLAs, and communication protocols. Implement AIOps capabilities within Datadog (Watchdog, anomaly detection, ML-based alerting) to reduce MTTD and MTTR. Lead major incident command for P0/P1 events; conduct thorough post-incident reviews with systemic remediation plans.


Essential

Qualifications and skills

  • We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
  • 8+ years in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or Infrastructure roles, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Datadog for observability, monitoring, alerting, and performance optimization
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and
  • Proficiency in automation and configuration management tools (Terraform, Ansible, Chef, or equivalent)
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, distributed systems, and microservices architecture
  • Familiarity with scripting/programming languages (Python, Go, Shell, etc.) for automation and tooling
  • Strong background in performance tuning, capacity planning, and resilience engineering
  • Experience with agile/scrum techniques


Preferred

  • Container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker)
  • Master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field
  • Ability to collaborate across matrixed organizations
  • Experience with other observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, etc.)
  • Knowledge of ITIL practices and modern service management frameworks
  • Exposure to regulated industries (healthcare, pharma, consumer health)
