Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced AS/400 (IBM i) System Administrator with 8+ years of hands-on experience to manage, support, and maintain IBM i (iSeries / AS/400) environments. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in system administration, performance tuning, security, backups, and high availability, ensuring the stability, reliability, and security of mission-critical business systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, monitor, and support IBM i (AS/400 / iSeries) systems in production and non-production environments.
- Manage IBM i OS upgrades, PTFs, firmware updates, and system maintenance.
- Perform system monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning to ensure optimal system availability.
- Configure and maintain backups, restores, journaling, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Manage user profiles, authorization lists, object-level security, and system-level security policies.
- Support and manage DB2 for i databases, including backups, restores, and performance optimization.
- Work with subsysts, job queues, output queues, and spool file management.
- Troubleshoot system issues, conduct root cause analysis, and provide timely resolution.
- Support high availability (HA) / disaster recovery (DR) solutions where applicable (e.g., MIMIX, PowerHA).
- Collaborate with application teams, developers, and infrastructure teams to support business operations.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and runbooks.
- Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support as required.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of hands-on experience as an AS/400 / IBM i System Administrator.
- Strong expertise with IBM i (iSeries / AS/400) operating systems.
- Experience with CL programming; exposure to RPG / RPGLE is an asset.
- Solid knowledge of DB2 for i, system backups, restores, and performance tuning.
- Strong understanding of IBM i security concepts, user provisioning, and auditing.
- Experience managing job scheduling, subsystems, queues, and system monitoring tools.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex system and performance issues independently.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Eligible to work in Canada.
Nice to Have
- Experience with HA/DR solutions (MIMIX, PowerHA, iTera).
- Experience with IBM i modernization or migration projects.
- Exposure to Linux, AIX, or Windows environments.
- IBM certifications related to IBM i / Power Systems.
- Experience in regulated or enterprise environments.
