Job Title: Manual Test Engineer – Web & GenAI

Position Overview

Johnson Controls is seeking a detail‑oriented Manual Test Engineer – Web with GenAI first mindset to join our global Marketing IT team responsible for delivering large‑scale, public‑facing websites. This role focuses on functional, exploratory, and usability testing of web platforms, ensuring high‑quality user experiences across browsers, mobile devices, and content configurations.

The ideal candidate should have strong manual testing experience, hands‑on expertise testing Sitecore (or any CMS) based websites, solid understanding of modern web technologies, and an interest in leveraging Generative AI (GenAI) to improve test coverage, analysis, and documentation efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

GenAI‑Assisted Manual QA Enhancements

• Used GenAI tools (M365 Copilot, Agents) to generate test ideas, edge cases, and exploratory testing scenarios, improving test coverage and defect detection.
• Convert business requirements and user stories into AI‑assisted manual test cases, test scenarios, and acceptance criteria.
• Strengthened exploratory testing through AI‑suggested workflows, negative scenarios, and user behaviour simulations.
• Analyz defect trends and test coverage gaps using AI‑driven insights to support quality improvements.
• Worked in Agile environments, actively participating in sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Collaborated cross‑functionally with QA, Development, and Product teams, using AI‑assisted analysis for faster alignment and decision‑making.
  
  

Manual Testing & Quality Engineering

• Execute functional, regression, smoke, sanity, and user acceptance testing (UAT) for web applications.
• Perform manual testing of web components, workflows, integrations, and content-driven features.
• Validate APIs at a functional level using tools such as Postman or similar (where applicable).
• Support test execution cycles aligned with Agile sprints and release schedules.
• Log, track, and retest defects using tools like Jira or Azure DevOps, ensuring clear reproduction steps and impact analysis.
• Participate in test reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of test processes and standards.
  
  

Quality Assurance for Web & CMS Platforms

• Analyze business requirements, functional specifications, and UX designs to create comprehensive test plans and manual test cases.
• Conduct thorough testing of Sitecore (or any CMS) based websites including:
• Component rendering and layouts
• Content authoring and publishing workflows
• Media library usage and content validation
• Validate metadata, SEO tags, redirects, and content consistency across environments.
• Ensure accurate data rendering and content integrity across regions and languages.
  

Cross‑Browser, Accessibility & Non‑Functional Testing

• Perform cross‑browser and cross‑device testing (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari; Android ad iOS mobile).
• Validate responsive design behavior and usability across screen sizes.
• Conduct accessibility testing using WCAG guidelines and tools (e.g., Axe, Lighthouse, screen readers).
• Support basic performance, security, and SEO validations in collaboration with specialized teams.
• Identify usability issues and provide actionable feedback to UX and development teams.
  
  

Collaboration & Documentation

• Work closely with developers, UX designers, content authors, and marketing stakeholders to validate user‑facing features.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, refinement, and retrospectives.
• Maintain detailed documentation for test cases, test execution evidence, defect reports, and QA metrics.
• Advocate for quality best practices and contribute to a culture of continuous testing and improvement.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s/Masters degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in manual web testing and quality assurance.
• Strong understanding of web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) from a testing perspective.
• Hands‑on experience testing Sitecore websites or other enterprise CMS platforms.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and tools such as Azure DevOps.
• Experience with cross‑browser, accessibility (WCAG), SEO, and usability testing.
• Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience using GenAI tools to assist with test design, analysis, documentation, or exploratory testing.
• Exposure to Sitecore XP, SXA, or XM Cloud is a strong plus.
• Exposure on Site Improve tool.
• QA certifications such as ISTQB or equivalent are preferred.
