As a Senior Data Scientist in Micron’s SMAI AT OI team, you will own and sustain MAS (Micron Advanced Scheduler) for backend AT operations and serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for factory scheduling systems. You will lead deployment strategy, governance, and process alignment with IT, while guiding sites to develop area-level SMEs. This role blends product/process ownership with deep technical leadership to ensure robust, scalable scheduling solutions across sites.
You will interact with experienced Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Business Areas Engineers, and UX teams to identify questions and issues for data analysis projects and improvement of existing tools. In this position, you will help develop software programs, algorithms and/or automated processes to cleanse, integrate, and evaluate large datasets from multiple disparate sources. There will be significant opportunities to perform exploratory and new solution development activities.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Define and execute the MAS roadmap for backend AT; own ARCI, change control, and version/golden-copy management.
Partner with IT on release pipelines, environment readiness, risk mitigation, and incident management.
Translate business objectives into clear specifications and user stories; prioritize backlog and drive adoption (super-user enablement).
Design, optimize, and sustain MAS scheduling logic (dispatching, Q-time controls, line-prioritization); lead L2/L3 troubleshooting in production.
Develop robust solutions using C#, Python, and SQL; implement data packages for flow & demand.
Build validation tooling and dashboards; perform release KPI checks and performance tuning.
Integrate with simulation/heuristics engines and coordinate cross-team integration tests.
Act as the MAS SME and guide sites to build area-level SMEs (examples above; not limited to these) via OJT, documentation, and BKM capture.
Track KPIs/ROI; communicate progress, risks, and strategic recommendations to sponsors and leadership; maintain decision logs.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s/Master’s in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, Data Science, or related discipline.
5+ years in semiconductor manufacturing systems with fab or post-wafer finishing experience.
Programming: Proficient in C#, Python, and SQL.
Development Environment & DevOps: Visual Studio, Git, Azure DevOps; CI/CD familiarity.
Data & Analytics: Snowflake (preferred), Tableau/Power BI (preferred); GCP exposure a plus; JavaScript for UI a plus.
Optimization & OR: Experience with CPLEX/Gurobi and optimization methods; knowledge of machine learning/deep learning/reinforcement learning a plus.
Scheduling & Simulation: Direct experience with factory scheduling, simulation, and application development.
MES & Automation: Strong understanding of MES concepts, equipment automation (e.g., tool interfaces/AMHS/SCADA), and manufacturing data flows.
Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, influence stakeholders, and drive global alignment.
Excellent communication; structured problem-solving; willingness to travel and support multi-site initiatives.
