The Goal
- Responsible to maintain all aspects of the organisation's global Linux systems including software, hardware and respective provider services.
- Interacts with users as a third level of escalation for infrastructure-related issues.
- Provides advanced remote troubleshooting and fault finding in area of expertise when issues occur.
- Performs regular maintenance, patches, and upgrades to keep corporate Linux environment current and efficient.
- Installs, configures, and maintains Linux servers and systems, ensuring stability and reliability.
- Develops and enforces security policies, conducts regular audits, and implements measures in areas of responsibility, to protect against vulnerabilities and threats.
- Monitors performance of systems and/or networks, identifying, addressing and adjusting issues proactively to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Contributes to disaster recovery and backup / recovery strategies to ensure business continuity and data integrity.
- Develops and maintains detailed documentation for system/network configurations, procedures, and policies.
- Writes and maintains scripts to automate administrative and operational tasks.
- Works closely with other IT staff, departments, vendors, and service providers to ensure seamless integration and operation of IT systems.
- Partners with IT Management to assess current and future infrastructure needs, in areas of responsibility.
- Prepares and communicates regular reports on work-related activities across the IT team and with stakeholders as needed.
- Provides training and support to users and IT staff within their area of expertise

The Player
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering or similar relevant degree.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in Linux system administration in a large-scale environment.
- Experience in IT projects related to large company acquisitions/mergers would be desirable.
- Professional Certifications (Beneficial)
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator / Engineer (RHCSA / RHCE)
- LPIC-2
- CompTIA Linux+
- Extensive knowledge of Linux operating systems (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu), shell scripting, and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet).
- Experience with the Pacemaker/Corosync cluster stack.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and services (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NFS, FTP, SSH, VPN).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure.
- Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM, Xen) and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with systems and networks observability/monitoring tools such as Nagios, Zabbix and Grafana
- Knowledge of managing and maintaining databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB on Linux systems.
- Understanding of storage protocols and technologies (e.g., SAN, NAS, RAID).
- Experience with administrating enterprise servers' hardware (e.g. Dell PowerEdge), storage arrays (e.g. NetApp) and backup systems (e.g. Veeam).
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CD pipelines and version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Expert in Shell, Perl, and/or Python scripting
- Experience implementing and managing security best practices, including security audits.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex system issues efficiently and effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, with a collaborative and cooperative approach to problem-solving. This includes the ability to work with other IT professionals, vendors, and service providers.
- Focus on delivery and high tolerance in working under pressure
- Must be willing and able to travel, work after hours and weekends when required.
