Senior Data Engineer

About the Role

Rently is at a pivotal turning point. As we scale our products like Pay Rent Earn Rewards and Rent Now Pay Later across the UAE and Singapore, we are moving away from "data as an afterthought" to a robust, scalable Data Platform Strategy. We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer who is a "hands-on builder" to architect, code, and own our data infrastructure from the ground up.

This isn't a managerial role where you oversee vendors; you will be the primary developer. You will take our vision for a Single Source of Truth and turn it into a reality by building the end-to-end pipeline from raw ingestion to the final database tables that power our business logic. You will work closely with our COO and the Business teams to ensure that every KPI, from Delinquency Rates to LTV, CAC, is accurate, auditable, and automated.

Your mission: Own the technical journey from raw source data to production-ready DWH tables. You will build, automate, and scale the DWH to provide strategic and operational visibility into our business end-to-end. You will be the guardian of data integrity and the engine behind our analytical depth.

🛠 What You’ll Do:

🏗 Build & Architect the DWH (From Scratch)

• Design and implement end-to-end data flow
• Ingest raw, unchanged data from production systems (no silent overwrites)
• Build transformation layers in DBT
• Model full historical status tracking (no data loss)
• Architect schemas that reflect real business logic

💻 End-to-End Engineering

• Write production-grade SQL and transformation logic
• Build scalable data models (star schema, dimensional modeling where appropriate)
• Ensure business logic lives inside data models - not inside Power BI
• Implement CI/CD and best practices for pipeline management

🔄 Ingest & Integrate

• Build robust pipelines using Azure Data Factory
• Integrate Stripe (Parquet files), HubSpot, CRM, and internal production DBs
• Design pipelines that are reliable, observable, and cost-efficient

🛡 Data Governance & Quality

• Design QA dashboards and validation frameworks
• Implement testing protocols in DBT
• Own data consistency and eliminate “number mismatch” discussions
• Act as the guardian of the Single Source of Truth

• Work directly with stakeholders to define KPI calculations
• Translate business definitions into scalable data models
• Ensure metrics are verifiable and transparent

• Monitor performance and cost
• Optimize queries, storage, and processing

📖 Documentation & Enablement

• Document architecture decisions
• Train internal teams on data definitions and usage
• Make the system maintainable and transparent

🎯 Who You Are:

✅ Hands-On Builder

• 5+ years in Data Engineering
• Experience building Data Warehouses from scratch
• You prefer writing SQL and models over clicking in UI tools
• Comfortable being both architect and implementer

✅ Azure Stack Expert

Strong experience with:

• Azure Data Factory
• Azure SQL / Synapse
• Azure Data Lake / Blob Storage
• DBT
• Parquet-based pipelines

✅ Data Modeler

• You design schemas that reflect complex business realities
• You understand historical modeling (SCD, status tracking, cohorts, financial metrics, etc.)
• Experience in fintech or transactional environments is a strong plus
