Full Stack Engineer

The Content Platform Team at SPH Media is looking to expand the team with a Senior Full stack Software Engineer. You will not just write code, you will be responsible for the lifecycle of the services that power our global reach. You will build and maintain scalable, well-tested solutions that store, index, and serve content to millions of readers around the world while ensuring our platform remains resilient and performant. These services include content APIs, high-traffic pipelines, storage solutions, and developer tooling. The team values reliability, automation, and reusability.

Here, your architectural decisions will directly influence the digital experience of millions.

Key responsibilities:

• End to end ownership: Own the architectural evolution of our content ecosystem. You will identify systemic bottlenecks and design high-throughput, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
• Quality and Testing: Champion a culture of stability by delivering well-tested code and implementing automated testing suites that ensure long-term maintainability
• Scale and Impact: Architect solutions that service millions of concurrent requests during critical news events, ensuring 99.99% availability and up time. You will optimise global content delivery strategies for a global audience.
• Build developer tooling and storage solutions that emphasize reusability and automation
• Drive technical blueprint discussions to build consensus on technical direction and document architectural decisions, navigating trade-offs between latency, consistency and cost.
• Conduct deep-dive code reviews focusing on architectural patterns, security and performance.
• Establish and enforce best practises in API design, documentation and automated testing to ensure a stable and predictable release cycle.

You will need:

• 5+ years of software development experience
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node
• Experience with AWS or other cloud providers (CDN, APIGW, Lambda, S3, OpenSearch)
• Experience with web frontend libraries and frameworks such as React, Svelte, or VueStrong knowledge of web technology fundamentals
• Good technical writing skills – the RFC process is an important part of software development at SPH
• Proven experience designing and implementing reliable, performant, and scalable architectures

Good to have:

• Domain expertise around media or content in general
• Experience with Terraform, Python, or Java
• Experience with NoSQL databases such as OpenSearch/MongoDB
