Backend Quality Engineer | API Testing, Test Automation, Java, Performance Testing, CI/CD, Financial/Enterprise Experience

Job Summary

Synechron is seeking a dedicated Backend Quality Engineer to join our agile development team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, executing, and automating test cases to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions. You will contribute to testing strategies across APIs, web applications, and backend systems, supporting continuous integration and deployment processes. Your work will help maintain system stability, security, and performance, aligning with organizational goals for delivering reliable and scalable digital products.

Software Requirements

• Required: Java 8+, Rest Assured, Maven, TestNG, Postman/Insomnia, JMeter, SQL (PostgreSQL or similar), Jenkins or an equivalent CI/CD tool, Git
• Preferred: Cucumber (BDD), Rest Assured, OpenAPI/Swagger, Splunk, Kibana, Grafana, Jaeger, OpenSearch, scripting languages (Python, Bash)
• Experience level: Proven hands-on experience in test automation, API testing, and performance testing within enterprise environments
  
  

Overall Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain manual and automated test cases to validate functional, integration, performance, and security aspects of backend systems and APIs
• Automate regression and functional tests using Rest Assured, Maven, TestNG, and CI/CD pipelines
• Create and execute test plans based on user stories, specifications, and technical requirements, ensuring coverage for edge cases and negative scenarios
• Support API integration testing, including providing test data and troubleshooting API issues for consumers
• Build performance testing scripts using JMeter to evaluate scalability, security, and usability metrics
• Monitor application logs and metrics, proactively identifying issues to maintain system uptime of 99.9%
• Assist in deploying, validating, and supporting release activities, ensuring smooth and reliable application updates
• Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and automation teams to improve testing processes and tools
• Review requirements for potential vulnerabilities, security flaws, and performance bottlenecks, providing improvement suggestions

• Programming Languages:
• Required: Java 8+, SQL
• Preferred: Python or other scripting languages for automation and tooling
• Databases/Data Management:
• Experience querying and validating data in SQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.)
• Cloud Technologies:
• Basic familiarity with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) for testing and deployment (preferred but not mandatory)
• Frameworks and Libraries:
• Rest Assured, TestNG, Cucumber (BDD), JUnit, JMeter, Swagger/OpenAPI
• Development Tools & Methodologies:
• Git, Jenkins, Maven, Test Driven Development (TDD), Behavior Driven Development (BDD), Agile/Scrum workflows

• Understanding of authentication protocols (OAuth2, JWT), security testing fundamentals, performance testing best practices
  

Experience Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in software testing, including automation, API testing, and performance testing
• Proven expertise in Java-based automation frameworks and API validation tools
• Hands-on experience in verifying software security, scalability, and reliability
• Knowledge of databases, scripting, and CI/CD pipelines in an enterprise context
• Experience working within Agile teams in a fast-paced environment, preferably in financial services or fintech sectors
  
  

Day-to-Day Activities

• Design, develop, and execute manual and automated test cases for new and existing backend systems and APIs
• Maintain and enhance automation frameworks, ensuring high coverage and reusability
• Collaborate with developers, product owners, and DevOps teams to streamline testing workflows and improve deployment reliability
• Monitor system logs, conduct root cause analysis, and escalate issues proactively to minimize downtime
• Build and run performance tests to identify bottlenecks and support system scaling efforts
• Review feature specifications for security and performance risks and recommend mitigation strategies
• Regularly review test results, track defect status, and report progress using test management tools
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; relevant work experience can be considered in lieu of formal education
• Certifications in testing (ISTQB, Certified Tester, or similar) are a plus
• Strong understanding of software testing best practices, API testing, and automation frameworks
• Proven track record delivering quality assurance in complex enterprise systems, preferably in banking, finance, or fintech sectors
• Commitment to staying current with emerging testing tools, frameworks, and industry standards
