About the Internship

WeChat’s internships provide paid, full-time opportunities lasting a minimum of 12 weeks. Interns will be mentored by senior members of the WeChat operations team and work hands-on in developing new projects and product features. By the end of the internship, participants will have gained a deep understanding of WeChat’s values, independently executed data-driven projects, and collaborated effectively across multiple departments, including product, engineering, and legal teams.

Responsibilities

Support the development of backend services and APIs to support WeChat's product and data needs.
Build and maintain large-scale data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and analytics across distributed systems.
Work with the data platform team to optimize storage and query performance on systems such as ClickHouse, Hive, and Apache Iceberg.
Contribute to real-time data streaming infrastructure using tools such as Apache Pulsar or Kafka.
Collaborate with product and data teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
Participate in code reviews and system design discussions with a strong eagerness to learn.

Requirements

Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or similar quantitative field.
Proficiency in at least one backend programming language: Python, Java, C/C++, or Go.
Familiarity with big data ecosystems and tools such as Spark, Hive, Iceberg, ClickHouse, Kafka, or Apache Pulsar is a strong plus.
Understanding of distributed systems concepts (e.g. data partitioning, replication, fault tolerance) is preferred.
Self-driven, detail-oriented, and eager to learn in a fast-paced collaborative environment.
Fluency in both English and Mandarin to work effectively with international teams and stakeholders based in HQ.
