About The Role

Uber Courier

Courier is one of the fastest growing businesses at Uber. It is an on-demand C2C package delivery service used by small businesses and consumers. We have recently crossed 1B in ARR and are still scratching the surface. The product is very popular in Brazil & India and has a lot of headroom to grow in EMEA and US&C. Aside from core send & receive packages workflows, the product has many other use cases such as Store pick-ups, returns, intercity deliveries ( in Brazil ) etc as well as we are piloting new initiatives such as XL vehicles & high value item deliveries. The tech team is spread across US & India.

Senior EM

India is the secondary site for Courier engineering. As a senior EM, you will lead the India org, hire aggressively and help it scale further. India is also one of the top markets for Courier with a lot of headroom to grow. You will play a pivotal role in growing Courier business globally by building XL ( large vehicles like mini trucks, trucks etc. ) use cases , migrating Courier from mobility to delivery tech stack, creating a world class delivery experience ( post pick up workflows , earner, support tooling. ) and launching many more impactful products such as premium, service guarantee etc. Fulfillment is the backbone for a package delivery service. Our north star is that every item should be delivered on time with 100% reliability.

• Manage a team of 25 with a mix of engineering managers and engineers with varying levels of seniority.
• Coaches and mentors both direct reports and skip levels to foster a culture of taking risks and allowing teams to learn from failures.
• Create a compelling vision for the team that aligns with company goals, and deliver on that promise by fast paced execution and continuous experimentation. Coach managers on crafting a vision for their team(s).
• Work closely with the PM, design and other eng leads to build an ambitious roadmap and execute with a sense of urgency.
• Embrace the startup culture and build a high degree of ownership & accountability in your team leading by example.
• Build strong relationships with many upstream and downstream teams - earner, support tech, payments etc to collaborate on shared goals.
• Thoroughly understand strengths and development areas for the team members, coach them to reach their full potential and grow their careers by providing impactful business opportunities.
  
  

Basic Qualifications

• Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment.
• 5+ years of experience as an engineering manager and at least 2+ years managing managers having launched many successful products, led the team through technology migrations, introduced new processes to streamline execution & collaboration etc.
• 8+ years of experience writing production software in large scale distributed systems.
• Strong computer science fundamentals to help make the right technical decisions & tradeoffs for long term sustainable growth while allowing room for rapid experimentation.
• Clear communicator with the ability to motivate the team and influence the stakeholders to align on goals.
• Ph.D., M.S. or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or Operations Research, or equivalent technical background with exceptional demonstrated impact.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Scala, Java, or Go
• Proficiency in upholding high standards of quality, reliability, and operational excellence through efficient review processes and data-driven improvements.
