AI Engineering Intern

What The Role Is

URA has undergone a digitalisation journey to harness urban science, geospatial and data analytics, modelling and simulation, and AI technologies in urban planning and design. Our teams, with capabilities in data policy, governance, strategy, and engineering, product strategy, business analysis, software engineering, cloud engineering, urban design technologies, data science, AI/ML, and modelling and simulation, collaborate with planners, architects, and policymakers to create insights and digital solutions for Singapore’s urban planning challenges. You will be joining the PLAN AI Team, building Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled planning system & processes. This is part of the National AI Strategy and the MND Science & Technology Plan, focusing on strengthening central support for AI, building WOG AI Capabilities, and establishing a Public Sector AI Governance Framework.

What You Will Be Working On

The fast-paced developments in the space of AI presents exciting opportunities to harness this technology to enhance the way URA officers work. Intern(s) will undertake some of or a mix of the following tasks:

• support development and production of AI/ML tools to enhance urban planning & design work (e.g. LLM-enabled assistants, AI image generator [model training + explore latest diffusion models] etc)
• exploration of new AI/ML techniques such as Text2SQL, RAG2SQL, multi-agent AI systems (or others) etc.
  
  
  

Learning Outcomes

• Gain practical experience in developing and implementing AI/ML/LLM-enabled prototypes and solutions within Gov/URA's context.
• Cultivate problem-solving and innovative thinking skills, particularly in proposing solutions to address users' needs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement solutions that meet business requirements
  
  
  

What We Are Looking For

• Internship Period: May - Aug 2026. Full-time internship preferred.

• Students pursuing Computer Science/ Information Technology with interest in AI/ML & GenAI, Smart Cities, Design & Artificial Intelligence
• Familiarity with RAG techniques. Experience with UX/UI design and design tools like Canva will be a bonus
