BackEnd Engineer Intern (Go, GCP)

We are looking for a talented and motivated Backend Engineer Intern to join our growing team, at Cake. You will have the opportunity to work on a large-scale, highly available system built with Golang and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). In this role, you will gain valuable experience working alongside experienced engineers and contribute to a product used by millions.

In this role, you will be trained and mentored by highly skilled software engineers, assign the challenged tasks and encourage to learn and explore new cutting-edge technologies. You also be a part of the team, build relationships and unwind with team outings, sports, games, company trips, happy hours, and year-end parties.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services using Golang.
• Design, implement, and test APIs.
• Leverage GCP services to build a scalable and reliable infrastructure.
• Collaborate with engineers across different teams to ensure smooth system integration.
• Write clean, well-documented, and maintainable code.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving code quality.
• Stay up-to-date on the latest trends in Go and GCP.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of programming fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, Network/System, ...).
• Experience with any Backend coding languages such as Go (preferred), Java, Python.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is a big plus.
• Experience with building APIs for high available/scalable systems.
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication and written skills.
• A passion for learning and a willingness to take on new challenges.

Our Technical stacks

• Our core services consist of hundreds of Golang microservices built around domain-oriented, event-driven architecture. All run on GCP, GKE, and Istio with autoscaling, resiliency, and chaos engineering mindset with full end-to-end observability.
• Our mobile platform was running on Flutter, component-based, composable architecture. Web app largely on TypeScript, React, Next.JS, Tailwind CSS and composable in-house design components and framework.
• Gitlab for all code repositories, CI/CD, with Backstage as a centralized developer productivity platform.
• DevOps culture, you are fully responsible with design, build, and operate your own services with support from SRE, Platform team as needed.
• Open-source lover, and open-source contributor. All tooling and platforms used were in-house custom-built on popular open-source projects.
