The Software Development Centre is responsible for the development of software and application products to harness technology to improve the performance of our clients value chain. The team is made up of subject matter experts that work to the country manager to develop products that assist in the delivery of the client mandate. Working together but often independently, each developer will be expected to work, onsite and remotely, with the wider team and clients on complex engagements.

The Role

The Software Development Centre (SDC) Cloud Architect reports to the SDC Country Manager and is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of our cloud infrastructure and DevOps environement. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), automation tools, CI/CD pipelines, and container orchestration. Responsibilities include architecting scalable and secure cloud environments, automating infrastructure provisioning, managing continuous integration and delivery pipelines, and ensuring robust monitoring and security practices. Collaboration with development and operations teams to enhance productivity and efficiency is essential. Strong problem-solving skills, a passion for innovation, and a commitment to continuous improvement are key.

The Primary Duties Of The Cloud Architect Are

• Cloud Architecture Design: Design and implement scalable, reliable, and secure cloud infrastructure using AWS, Azure, or GCP. Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
• DevOps Environment Design: Architect and design DevOps practices and processes to streamline software development, testing, and deployment workflows.
• Define CI/CD pipelines, version control strategies, and release management processes to facilitate continuous integration and delivery.
• Continuous Integration (CI) / Contiuous Development, delivery (CD) Pipeline Management: Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate code integration, testing, and deployment processes. Integrate automated testing, security scans, and compliance checks into CI/CD pipelines.
• Containerisation and Orchestration: Develop and manage containerized applications using Docker. Implement and manage Kubernetes clusters for container orchestration.
• Automation and Configuration Management: Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and application deployment. Use configuration management tools like Chef, Puppet, or SaltStack to ensure consistent and reproducible environments.
• Monitoring and Logging: Implement and manage monitoring and logging solutions to ensure the health, performance, and security of cloud infrastructure and applications. Use tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK stack for comprehensive monitoring and alerting.
• Security and Compliance: Implement and maintain robust security practices, including automated security testing and compliance checks. Ensure cloud infrastructure adheres to best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with development, operations, and business teams to understand their needs and provide technical solutions. Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and innovation.
• Troubleshooting and Support: Identify, diagnose, and resolve Level 1/2 technical issues related to cloud infrastructure and DevOps processes. Provide support and guidance to development and operations teams regarding cloud and DevOps best practices.
• Documentation and Training: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for cloud architecture, CI/CD pipelines, and operational procedures. Provide training and support to team members on cloud and DevOps tools and practices.
• Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies in cloud computing and DevOps. Continuously evaluate and improve existing processes, tools, and systems to enhance efficiency and productivity.

Skills

• Cloud Platforms: Proficiency in Microsoft Azure, including service knowledge and pricing models.
• Automation: Experience with Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation for infrastructure automation.
• CI/CD: Strong understanding of Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI for continuous integration and delivery.
• ertifications: Possession of relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, or Google Cloud Professional Architect.
• Containerisation: Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes for efficient application deployment.
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Ability to write infrastructure code for consistent resource provisioning.
• Security Practices: Understanding of cloud security principles and compliance standards.
• Monitoring and Logging: Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, or CloudWatch for system insights.
• Scripting Languages: Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation and scripting tasks.
